The Power of We: A Sesame Street Special centers on four friends: Elmo, Abby Cadabby, Gabrielle, and Gabrielle's cousin Tamir. With other Sesame Street neighbors and celebrity guests, the friends explore their own identities and skin colors and come to understand what it means to be "color-proud"—to have pride in your own culture and race. In age-appropriate ways, the friends learn what each of us can do to stand up to racism, for ourselves and one another. Watch now on PBS KIDS and continue the conversation with your children using their Watch and Play Guide.

This School Year, #ThankATeacher
Let’s face it. This school year has been weird. But we’re getting through it, in part thanks to our nation’s amazing educators. Take a moment to #ThankATeacher during Teacher Appreciation Week, May 3-7.

Teachers change the lives of millions of children every day—and in a year where instruction could be virtual, in-person or a mix of both, their immense work and impact have provided a much-needed sense of community and connection. Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, educators across America are working hard to ensure every student has the tools they need to reach their full potential.

Summer is about to get a whole lot more exciting for NYC students in grades K–12.

Beginning on Monday, April 26, New York City families can start signing up for Summer Rising, the City’s free summer program for any child in grades K–12 who wants to participate.

Summer Rising integrates the strength of the NYC Department of Education’s academics with the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development’s school-based enrichment programming to help create bridges back to school this fall while giving parents peace of mind as they return to work. Available in every City neighborhood, Summer Rising programs will be full day, in-person experiences that will be run by local school leaders and trusted community-based organizations in safe and supportive environments. All Summer Rising programs will follow rigorous health and safety protocols, including social distancing and mask wearing, and every location will have access to testing, nursing support, and a telehealth call center. In addition, breakfast, lunch, and a snack will be served to each student.

Student COVID Test Step-By-Step

Student COVID Test Step-By-Step

We know we all want students to have the best possible experience with random COVID testing, and for as many families and educators to consent to testing. This video, produced by NYC DOHMH, is short, friendly, and demonstrates the process for kids. If they see the video ahead of time, it could help to ease their fears and make the testing process less scary.
